Perry was born to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). Her first appearance was on television as Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in Roseanne, an ABC sitcom Roseanne. She was not allowed to perform in front of her family until she reached the age of adulthood because they were afraid of the strain it might cause. Perry acknowledged that she was not comfortable acting in high school. She began doing it to meet new people at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry managed to get small TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent after she graduated. The feeling of homelessness, however, caused her to move back to California to return, where she started working on stage. Perry's mother and I appeared on Broadway with her as part of The Other Place, in 2013. The show was directed by Eugene O'Neill. Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was presented in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry appeared nine times in the ABC thriller The Family, in 2016. Her father played her on the ABC Drama Scandal. Also, she was cast on The CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. Despite her family link to the character, she was offered the role via an audition.
